Let’s be real— no pet parent looks forward to cleaning their pet’s ears. It can be challenging, but our pet friends appreciate us for taking care of them.
However, I’m not so sure about this English Bulldog puppy (@tank.tatoe) who had a hilarious reaction to getting his ears cleaned. From the looks of it, it looks like this pup isn’t the biggest fan!

This adorable puppy, Tank, is clearly not happy! But how he’s sitting post-ear clean is too funny. The way he squishes his little face against the wall like a human toddler made me laugh. I know my dog isn’t the biggest fan of ear cleanings either.
If you’re a new puppy parent and you’re looking for advice on how to clean your dog’s ears, the AKC has some tips and tricks that might help!
First, it’s important to keep in mind that your dog’s ears may not necessarily need to be cleaned. It’s a good idea to make sure they need to be cleaned since over-cleaning can cause them to become irritated or infected. Healthy, clean ears are pink and odorless.
However, if you notice their ears have a smell or you notice your dog shaking their head more than usual, it may be time to break out the materials to give them a proper clean.
All you need to clean their ears are cotton balls or gauze, a dog ear-cleaning solution, and a clean, dry towel. But be prepared for a mess! Be sure to do it in your bathroom or a place for easy clean up.
Three Steps to Proper Ear Cleaning
- Make sure you clean their ears when they’re in a calm state. Then, get everything you’ll need and have it nearby. This includes treats, too!
- Then, squeeze your ear-cleaning solution to fill your dog’s ear canal and rub it gently at the base of the ear for about 30 seconds. Be careful not to let the tip of the applicator touch their ear.
- Now that the hard part is over, let your pup shake their head. Once your dog is done shaking, use your cotton ball or gauze and gently wipe out the ear canal. But be careful not to go any deeper than the depth of one knuckle.
With some preparation, you can master the ear-cleaning method like a pro. However, there’s no telling how your dog will react afterward, just ask Tank to see what I mean.
